Selecting the right colour theme is not easy for many. While some people have higher sense for colours, other struggles to WOW the viewers. In this post, I’m going to share with you a few guaranteed ways I have learnt over past 14 years.

Firstly, get your sense of colours right! It is the perspective of how a final product or environment will look. You might have acquired this skill from your childhood or through working experience.
To increase your sense of colours, you can study the colours from popular magazines. Publishers and designers spent hours discussing the right colours for their magazines. By following them, you learn faster. Try browsing through the home decor magazines, fashion magazines, and business magazines.
Learn from the best web designers by searching for top web designs on Google. Buying design courses on Udemy.com will help you build a good foundation. (tip: get Udemy courses during their promotion at S$16.99; anything higher – wait for the next promotion)

Pay attention to the colours, spacing, gradients, font, font size, text alignment, image alignment, and the overall composure of the design. In many companies, these are explicitly stated in the company’s or product’s design/branding/style guide.
After imitating the colours from the professionals, start trying out yourself. Apply the skills you acquired on daily work such as designing PowerPoint slides for school or work. Turn boring Excels into stunning reports.

Once you are confident, you can be creative. Often, you will receive great feedback from people around you. That is an indicator that you have made it. You can even design dashboards based on the Sci-Fi movie you just watched on Netflix!
Consistently deliver high quality work.
Here are 7 online tools that will help you mix and match the suitable colour combinations for a single design. However, these tools will not help you unless you can visualize it!
